Loving my new scanner
I can't believe I went for so long without a scanner. Having this scanner is changing the way I teach in a big way. Prior to having the scanner I did a lot of tabbing things out during lessons. This is a big time waste and I'm sure some parents might not be thrilled while I am sitting there writing in a notebook eating up the lesson time.
WIth 40 to 50 students I can't spend a lot of time each week on each student. But for my advanced students it's important to show up with something prepared or the lesson can really be difficult. Even with beginners it can be difficult if I don't have some idea of where I'm going. This is an area I can definitely improve on moving forwards.
What I am doing now is when I tab something out I do it ahead of time and then I scan it and put it in a folder and label it. Yesterday I did a self accompanied blues thing and then I put it in a folder with this name. Now when I am looking for ideas of what to do in lessons I can look through my library and pick something out. Right now the library is small but over time I know it will grow and become even more useful.
If I had done this sooner I would have saved myself a lot of extra work.
Steve

LOL! The funny thing is I have a degree in Computer Science. I should be leading the way with this type of thing.

Re: Loving my new scanner
This is my progression:
Write out by hand for 2 kids every lesson x 40 lessons.
Start photocopying everything and put it aside.
Go through 3 bags in 1 year carrying around 15kilos of photocopies (probably 20 copies of each exercise)
Get a Crumpler Complete Seed bag in exchange for lessons (I was teaching the Crumpler kids)
Get tired of keeping up with photocopying.
Put songs in progressive order and write book of 50+ songs. Sell books to students. Takes dedicated students about a year to finish book if they apply themselves. Some kids have not progressed past EAD chords in two years because they won't practice.
Carry around far less stuff. Students bring book to lessons.
Crumpler bag still going strong after 6 years and still carrying around 15kilos, just different stuff...
