No I usually would just wear a polo shirt and jeans - I don't think it would really suit coming in a tie and stuff and playing Bullet For My Valentine! LOL I sometimes feel maybe I should be a bit better dressed but it makes guitar lessons a bit less formal I think. Though some of the other instrument teachers would be dressed better than me! LOL Yeah some schools here have the ids wearing blazers etc... and they arent even allowed to wear a coat over them which is crazy i think. Was wondering in these places do you have to dress up and do the tie and coat thing. They all seem its the kind of place's were the students are wearing uniform's which is really unorthodox here. I think the only reason they might were uniforms here is to stop the gang thing. But cool nondisclosed_email@example.com (Sixstringguitarstudio)Wed, 13 Oct 2010 18:43:22 +0000 Re: THINGS LOOKING UP AGAIN -https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165794,from=rss#post165794https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165794,from=rss#post165794 Ok Sixstring, Here is the school i will be starting at next week: Armagh City High School And the 3 I am already in: St Pauls School St Michaels School St Francis School I think the websites dont actually mention anything about guitar except for the Armagh School as they seem to see it as more important I think. The thing is to build a good reputation and have a decent website/portfolio type thing. I have one solid situation in a "Fine Arts academy" and one brewing in a Montessori school, which is a fancy word for Catholic school. But it sounds like over in Aussie and such the public schools allow this stuff.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Gaetano Paul)Wed, 13 Oct 2010 00:05:35 +0000 Re: THINGS LOOKING UP AGAIN -https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165788,from=rss#post165788https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165788,from=rss#post165788dang that has to be the coolest. I never heard anything like that. Any other US guitar teachers want to comment about this. Cause I don't think they have crap in the school's here. They rather pay for little Johnny to be a football star, baseball star. WOW!!! You guys have such opportunities it sound like over there. The school teacher's over here are having big problems with finding teaching jobs as it is. Everybody down sizing. Cutting teaching jobs. It would be worse for the one's they think don't matter like your art and music teacher's they would be the first one's to be cut I bet. Plus my brothers wife was a teacher for a few years but that didn't last long, I think she felt she was doing more than it was worth and what her pay check was, which was about $30,000 or more. But I guess she couldn't handle it and quit and went to work for my brother at his insurance business.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Sixstringguitarstudio)Tue, 12 Oct 2010 23:01:41 +0000 Re: THINGS LOOKING UP AGAIN -https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165786,from=rss#post165786https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165786,from=rss#post165786quote: I can't believe how the school systems over there like the music stuff. Over here its all about the sports. The primary schools over here are moderately supportive, but you should see what the high schools do - some of the rock bands the kids put together are fantastic. I was approached by a local high school as a possibility for their music department last week, but I don't know what will come of it. Anyway, this is my current school: http://www.buninyongps.vic.edu.au/ nondisclosed_email@example.com (Willybomb)Tue, 12 Oct 2010 22:14:21 +0000 Re: THINGS LOOKING UP AGAIN -https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165781,from=rss#post165781https://bteachguitar.runboard.com/p165781,from=rss#post165781quote:Sixstringguitarstudio wrote: I can't believe how the school systems over there like the music stuff. Any way you can get us a picture of the outside of this school you teach at just curious what these places look like. No problem will do, Better than that the teacher in this school in her hometown of Newry which is about 22 miles from me some of the schools even pay the kids private tuition - i couldn't believe it when she said that as if i was there it would save me chasing kids and parents for money - and I would geta proper wage from it that's is more dependable I would think. Anyway looks like in this school I will get paid on time every week which will a hassle less to worry about.... Though there are plenty of teachers in these schools that frown on guitar as well and give off at their kids missing class to come to me - luckily the music teachers themselves help me out which is great - they must see it as valuable to the kids. I suppose if the kids want it the teachers must provide it in some shape or form...otherwise I'd be out of a job! Scary thought.... September was a bit of a nightmare as 4 left and it wasnt looking like I would replace them. Have replaced 2 and have another one waiting - deciding whether to do that 8-8:30pm slot on a Monday night again. Had to go back and do 12-1pm Saturdays - but needs must I suppose. Also my school work - that school I mentioned - seems its going ahead for a Thursday morning - so one run down (16 miles away) and a few hours work - will be paid weekly for it - so seems good as well. Met with the kids yesterday - don't seem too bad a bunch.... The principal is happy for guitar to ahead as well which is also a good thing. Funny how quickly things can change round....
