Hey guys, what Method of teaching do you use for private lessons.

Each student getting there own books and walking with them through it?
No books writting out each lesson custom for each student?
Some other way?

I am still working my way through this and wondering how you do it?

Love to teach, but still learning!

For me it depends on the student.
When I made the decision to go full time it meant making some changes.

For young kids I use method books but get them playing songs as soon as possible.

For adults I will tailor the lesson to the individual student. If a guy just wants to play country music we focus on chords.

The days of one method of teaching are gone unless you don't mind not making any money.

I use play along books for the kids without a band and it seems to work very good for most.

You guide the lesson though. This does not mean they do not have to learn the basics.
I try to get them hooked asap and then they will be open to new ideas.
If a student will not practice I get rid of them right away because that does not usually change. I'm am fortunate to have 40 student with a waiting list. At one point I had 63 at a local music store but the revolving door drove me crazy so I got my own studio.

Good Luck

I use method books with almost all of my students. They are only part of my lesson though. It makes life easy because the ones I use teach exactly what I want my students to learn. They also have great backing tracks so they are much more fun to work with then those mel-bay note reading type books.
