So I did up this poster: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1myMwkgBHAr2IkitTrKrALd1ljwCxqGfKZ9JSbnN-dZc/edit

I've added tabs with my phone number on the version I would post publicly.

Do you think the image might turn off people who want to learn pop/rock styles (our bread and butter, of course)?

Anyone have any experience with Google Sites?

As much as I love Picasso, and love that image, I'd never use it to advertise guitar lessons. Why do you think that image would help build a teaching practice? Why did you choose it? Just curious...

I guess just because it is a beautiful eye-catching guitar-related image and because I've always liked the painting. I didn't really think it through: it doesn't exactly suggest hope and progress, does it? Maybe I was hoping it would suggest experience but no, you're right. Good thing I didn't print it yet. See how I need this board!

What sort of image do you use? Just nice shots of guitars? Famous guitarists? The poster that caught my eye just has a really nice shot of what looks like a Gibson ES-335.

I just did up a webpage with Google Sites, although it will probably take a couple of weeks before it shows up on Google searches (?):

https://sites.google.com/site/subramanianmusic/

It's very sparse and simple. Do you think it is perhaps too simple? Is the picture too weird/arty to draw in regular guitar students?

Two months later, my web page still doesn't show up on Google searches. Has anyone experienced this? What do you do about this?

Thanks in advance.

Webmaster tools gives you data on how your site does in search engines. Your website probably is indexed by google by now but your site isn't optimized or showing high enough in search results for whatever keyword you are hoping to rank for.

Google crawls the net and indexes new sites, you still have to submit your site manually to Bing / Yahoo however.

Google have an SEO guide, just search for "google seo guide" and download their PDF. Other areas you need to study are: Onsite optimization = Key words, avoiding duplicate content.

Offsite = Links to your site from other relevant sites (a link from an online casino site will likely hurt your ranking, not that I'm saying you'd go for that). Local directories might do the job.

You'd be looking to do local SEO which is easier, looking at a google search for "Guitar lessons Regina SK" I don't think you have much search engine competition if you cover the basics.

You can use google keyword tool (search "keyword") to find if terms you want to rank for have enough traffic or if there are terms you see that have traffic that you'd like to rank for. Don't worry too much if there aren't many searches for "Guitar lessons Regina SK" because people in Regina may be typing just "Guitar lessons" and google gives locally relevant results.

This post makes me think I really should practice my guitar more. I hope it helps.
