The course was great!
Everyone who attended was warm and enthusiastic and Nick was just amazing. His delivery of the in depth course content was easy approachable, and truly demonstated his incredible knowledge and skill of guitar, teaching and theory.
The course delivered exactly what is said on the tin, "How to be a great guitar Teacher". I think we were all taken out of our comfort zones and back again, picking up the tools and confidence along the way to really move forward in the teaching world.
As an ex-student of Nicks some 25 years ago it was a real pleasure to be under his tutorship again.
When he runs the next course....GET ON IT!

Rob is absolutely right.
I've been on many courses through work and they've always felt like just that - work. This was rivetingly interesting and I found myself completely absorbed for the whole weekend.

Course Outline

The course fell into three broad areas and a day was spent on each.

Day 1 – How to teach
Nick has a very clear idea of what the learning experience is like from the learner’s point of view and explained in detail how to refine your delivery so that your students enjoy your teaching and make good progress. There were many fine points of detail that it would have taken me a long time to notice (if indeed I ever did). Even very experienced teachers would find much valuable information here.

Day 2 – What to teach
Amongst a number of other topics we looked at how to structure our teaching to make it effective, and techniques to ensure progression of skills. This day was extremely useful.

Day 3 – Advanced teaching and business.
Exactly what it says.

Delivery

The course was fantastically well planned so it clearly felt like there was a logical progression in the training, from the point of view of the course member.
Nick’s timing was particularly good. I wondered initially when I saw the agenda how he would fit it all in, but he kept up a good pace of teaching which never felt like it was dragging.
I found his delivery extremely relaxed and entertaining. The teaching anecdotes made the explanations come to life and it was easy to see why he is a successful teacher. This was further underlined by the fact that students he had previously taught were on the course.

Overall Impression

I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I came away with a sense of excitement and satisfaction due to a, the amount I had learnt and b, the confirmation that my own approach to teaching was very much in agreement with his approach. It was clear that by the end of the course, all of us felt very much more empowered to strive to be a great teacher. I have no doubt now, that I have the knowledge and the strategies to provide an extremely high standard of lessons to my students.

Thanks for the replies.

I really wanted to attend this but it fell on a bad weekend for myself (was away the weekend before and after) and i couldn't really justify spending what would've been the best part of a grand on it.

Next time i will try my best to make it.

I also attended the 3 day workshop and if Nick runs another, I would strongly suggest any prospective guitar teachers to attend !!!

Without doubt Nick is a first class example of how a teacher should teach. He understands the concepts and methods required to teach and is able to explain these in lucid terms that is accessable and easily understood.

It was obvious Nick had spent a lot of time and effort into the layout and presentation of the course and the addition of excellent supporting materials, thoughtfully supplied to each student in a well presented folder, contained exercises to help the group bond over the three days.

I was a little reserved at first during the exercises, wondering if I might not be 'up there' with some of the other students, but no one played the axe hero as we were all there to help each other to understand the methods and applications of teaching. In the end everybody had something to contribute.

My partner also came on the course and being the only female student was at first a little intimidated by the gender imbalance. However, she was treated with great respect by everyone and Nick showed nothing but encouragement and support towards her over the three days.

Financially the course was worth every penny! With all the materials, experiences, knowledge and contacts acquired over the three days and post-course support, each student can e mail Nick with teaching enquiries for the next year, there is enough here to give me great confidence to build up my guitar teaching business.

A highly recommended first class course!

Re: How did it go ?

I've recently returned from Nick's October Guitar Teaching Workshop, and I have to say that I completely agree with the comments already made on this thread - it really was an outstanding course!

Having been teaching for a year, I found that Nick provided me with tips and ideas that I could immediately put into practice in lessons. I was impressed by his penetrating depth of insight into the teaching and learning experience; he has really delved into the subtle points that make the difference between an enjoyable, stress-free guitar lesson and an uphill struggle!

The strength of Nick's teaching was clear to see - he comes across as calm, confident, and in control. The rest of the workshop group were also wonderful and it was a pleasure to spend 3 days with friendly, like-minded individuals.

Overall the course was easily worth the investment of time and money. I'm already starting to put the ideas into practice in lessons, and feel I have gained a deeper awareness of many aspects of my teaching (due to the depth of the course it will probably take a while before I've fully integrated all of the materal).

I have left the course with increased confidence and motivation to take my teaching to the next level!
